You Know it's Cold Outside When...

This morning I woke up to an air temperature of -12 degrees below Fahrenheit with a wind chill of -40 degrees below zero! 

For blog readers who are not accustomed to such temperatures, I will give you an illustration:  Go to your freezer, open the door, and stick in your hand.  What you are feeling would be considered a heat wave!

You know it's Cold Outside When...

  • Your dog refuses to go out.
  • School is delayed two hours and there is no snow in the forecast
  • Your car groans when you start it (if you listen closely, you may hear it cry).
  • You have to consider whether or not to go get the mail.
  • When you need to dig in the back of your drawer for the super insulated monkey socks.
  • When you local weather is broadcast on national news.
  • When the exhaust of your car freezes to the roads (black ice)

I guess that is why Minnesota was labeled "the icebox of the north" in my daughters textbook.  The good news:  we should be skyrocketing into the 30's by the weeks end!  It may not sound like much, but when considering the wind chill, that is a 70 degree difference!  I guarantee their I will see people wearing shorts and t-shirts this weekend!

Home Staging Tip: De-Personalize

You may have heard stagers say, "We need to depersonalize this space."  But do you really know what that means?

Depersonalizing a house is different from removing clutter, because it concentrates on removing specific items from the home.  Depersonalizing a space involves removing highly personal items such as:

  • Family photos
  • Personal collections
  • Religious symbols
  • Political propaganda

Why is this necessary?  A depersonalized house will allow buyers to emotionally connect with the home.

For example, the picture below contains several photographs of the owner's family.  Buyers will have a difficult time imagining this house as their own.
